Our Mandate

Shipper-Centric:  Western Canadian, Multi-Commodity Shippers’ Organization

  • Support Shippers’ access to a competitive, safe, secure, efficient and environmentally responsible supply chain that contributes to Canada’s economic growth and prosperity.

Member Focused: Key Membership Services & Opportunities

  • Provide access to experienced, knowledgeable commodity transportation and logistics professionals, including general transportation legal opinion relating to WCSC objectives and mandates

  • Offer networking and dialogue opportunities among members on multi-industry level topics

  • Make available high-level guidance on individual member transportation and logistics concerns.

  • Provide regular updates on key issues and initiatives, including summaries of important meetings with government and other key stakeholders, media releases, news articles, supply chain bulletins relevant to membership priorities, and information on upcoming member events.

  • Provide up-to-date resources and data through a self-service portal.

Common Voice: Government & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Amplify influence using a coordinated perspective with government, key stakeholders and major influencers

  • Engage in legislative, regulatory and policy matters to protect the existing rights that members have under the current regulatory environment and to expand legislation that will benefit the collective group in terms of providing access to a competitive, efficient transportation system

  • Foster deep relationships and connections to build trust, enhance visibility and gain access to information and insights.

  • Proactively identify and engage new stakeholders and stay aware of ongoing government changes.

  • Participate on taskforce(s), committee(s) and/or assist government programs or initiatives that address the collective concerns of members.

Data-Informed: Performance Metrics Program

  • Collect and exchange performance data.

  • Integrate data with other forms of knowledge, contextual understanding and experience, including network mapping initiatives.

  • Provide timely and easy access to metrics to allow members to make decisions, form strategies, or guide actions for their respective organization based on data.

  • Share data with key stakeholders to cultivate transparency, accountability, alignment, collaboration and informed decision-making. 

Responsive Action: Strategic Support during Pivotal Events, Crisis, and Seasonal and/or Capacity Challenges

  • Actively advocate on the collective concerns and opportunities determined a priority by members.

  • Deliver timely updates and information to members during critical incidents and situations. 

  • Gather intelligence from key decision ad policy makers while simultaneously driving for action through fact-based discussions.

  • Offer counsel and perspective to various stakeholders based on experience and latest intelligence.

  • Deploy tactical support to provide insights, influence possible outcomes, and/or forewarn of potential issues.
